IceAid
helping children in Liberia
IceAid personnel and volunteers have just returned from Liberia where
they oversaw the building of a primary health care clinic at an orphanage.
The orphanage, the Alfred and Agnes Memorial located at Brewerville to
the north of Monrovia, asked IceAid to provide them (and their host community)
with the health care facility as their nearest centre was located more
than two hours treacherous drive away.
The laying of foundations began on May 26th and the roof was finally completed
three weeks later.
IceAid's guiding philosophy is to make quick positive impacts on the lives
of the most vulnerable.
The work was carried out as part of IceAid's ongoing programme of orphanage
rehabilitation at the Alfred and Agnes Memorial orphanage in Brewerville,
north of Monrovia.
Last year IceAid built a training centre to develop computer skills at
the same facility. (Read more >HERE<)
Before the end of the year IceAid will return to Liberia again to build
a vocational training school where more than 70 resident orphans and hundreds
of children from the surrounding community will receive instruction in
everything from dress making to carpentry and from brick making to computer
skills.
IceAid is actively looking for donors in Ireland to fund this project.
IceAid is an independent Irish and Icelandic international humanitarian
agency that relies on donations from individuals and institutions to carry
out our projects.
IceAid's focus is on helping the most vulnerable children in post conflict
situations; children orphaned by war. We seek to provide the facilities
where children will be prepared with the necessary vocational and educational
skills to help them fulfill their potential when they leave institutional
life at age 18 years.
To achieve these goals we provide infrastructural upgrades to orphanages,
building vocational training centres, clinics and schools and by providing
power, clean water and sanitation.
Additionally, IceAid feels it is important to advocate for these children
and to do this we actively make contacts with other agencies and individuals
that we feel will be able to help."
